As ever, communication will be a top priority for the children we support. We will use assessments and conversations with parents to guide us to develop the most appropriate and effective form of communication that will allow each child to be able to express themselves. By establishing these skills early on, we are setting them up with a skill set that can open up a world of opportunities for them as they develop and grow.
The Pathways nursery will be opening in the new year in a purpose-built premises that will offer a nurturing and enabling environment for our younger children to access 1:1 support from staff trained in the principles of applied behaviour analysis. Learning will be embedded into play in a child-led and free flow environment that is tailored to meet each unique need.
We will work on a whole range of other skills alongside developing communication; learning will be tailored to each individuals’ needs at that moment in time. The goals we set will follow the EYF (early years foundation stage) framework, in line with mainstream nursery settings. Our 1:1 individualised approach will allow us to break these goals down in to smaller and more manageable steps so that our young learners can achieve their fullest potential.
Progress will be monitored by one of the team’s BCBAs/UKBA(certs) on a weekly basis and feedback provided to parents to ensure an open dialogue at all times. By monitoring progress regularly we can tweak our approach and update goals to ensure we are offering the most effective provision to meet the individual needs of each child.
Our end goal is to equip our children with a love of learning and the skills they require to access either a mainstream or SEND school setting in the future.
